In exactly three months I will turn 30.
I’d like to say I’m not thinking about it, but It’s been on my mind all year!
When I was 26 I wrote a list of 30 things I was most definitely going to do before I turned 30. I made a list of trips I wanted to take, challenges I’d been dreaming of taking on, skills I planned to learn and personal breakthroughs I was hoping to have.
To date, I’ve completed 17 of the 30 :
1. Become a mother
2. See WICKED
3. Run another half marathon or marathon
4. Complete a scenic walk in NZ
5. Own a kick-a piece of furniture that has not been owned by anyone else.
6. Take up dance classes
7. Eat an eclair fresh out of the oven in Paris
8. Go vegetarian for a month
9. Protest for something worthwhile
10. Spend NYE In Times Square
11. Publish a book or E book
12. See a show on Broadway
13. Climb an epic mountain
14. Unplug for an entire weekend ( Internet free)
15. Live abroad
16. Spend a night camping underneath the stars
17. Shoot something
18. White water raft
19. Create a 5 course meal, master chef style
20. Organise a community event for something worthwhile
21. Ride a motorcycle on my own
22. Sew a decent article of clothing
23. Make a dramatic change to my appearance
24. Go on a classic American road trip
25. Become a qualified Aerobics instructor
26. Go backstage at a concert
27. Own a pair of leopard print pumps
28. Test drive a sports car
29. Quit my job and do something I love ( this one scares me even as I write it)
30. Plan an epic 30th bash
A few things stand out to me now about this list.
First, the things that were important to me at 26, are no longer high on my priority list. I mean, shoot something, own a pair of leopard print shoes?? Talk about dreaming big!
Secondly I wrote down ” Spend New Years Eve in Times Square” and ” Eat an eclair in Paris” ( which are things I truly want to do) and then made absolutely no plan for them to happen. I lived as if a ticket to Paris would one day show up in my mail box. I also went to New York and had an amazing time there but didn’t plan it around new years? What’s up with that? If you fail to plan you plan to fail folks.
How often do you find yourself saying ” I should…” or ” I really want to….” and then take no action towards making it happen? The reality is unless you make a plan, or schedule it into your life it will NEVER HAPPEN and you’ll end up should-ing all over yourself 😉 But that’s a post for another day.
Third, I acknowledge that i’ve done some pretty awesome things that were not on my list, travelled to some beautiful places, lived in 4 countries, and I’ve also ticked off some pretty massive achievements like, quitting my job to do something I really love- massive! Became a mother- Massive-er!
With three months to go until I hit this milestone, I thought i’d revamp my list to include things that I know I can actually get done in three months.
So here is my new and revised 30 before 30 list.
1. Become a mother
2. See WICKED
3. Run another half marathon or marathon
4. Complete a scenic walk in NZ

What would you have on YOUR ultimate 30 before 30 bucket list?
Tiffany, I can see you completing #20 sometime soon!
I’m off to make my own bucket list and at 51 it is well overdue – perhaps I’ll aim to complete it by 60 ?
Sarah
Have you never been skinny dipping? Now that is certainly something that needs to be done, in warm weather! I love it and make sure I do it at least once a year!
I’m well past 30, more like catching up to 40! I happily reflect on all I did before this point and am very excited about the things to come after.
I will start making a list, thanks for a bit of motivation!
